Wisdom Tooth Extractions – South Euclid, OH
You No Longer Need Your Third Molars
Removing wisdom teeth is often considered a common practice among more mature teenagers and young adults. Typically recommended between the ages of 16 and 25, this procedure removes third molars that exist toward the back of your mouth. Although once used by early civilizations to consume food, they no longer serve a purpose because of changes to diets and facial shape. If left untreated, they can become painful and harmful to the rest of your mouth. To learn if you or your teenager need wisdom tooth extractions, call us.

The Wisdom Tooth Process

There are two types of wisdom tooth surgeries: simple and surgical. For anyone who needs to have wisdom teeth removed, we will determine how many should be extracted (1-4) and administer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
When ready, we’ll use specialized instruments known as dental forceps and a dental elevator to help remove a partially erupted wisdom tooth. Once the tooth is elevated, we will use dental pliers to gently rock it back and forth until it finally detaches.
If these teeth are impacted, however, this requires a more complex surgical component. To access the tooth, we must make a small incision in the gums and remove it in pieces so that it does not hinder the bone as much.
